Class of 2025: Prescreens

February 26, 2024 by Preston Miller

We’re still quite a ways from the class of 2025 beginning their journey with college admissions for dance, so now is the perfect time to start wrapping your mind around one of the biggest components of the process: prescreens.

For those starting from zero, prescreens are the photos or videos that colleges use to decide whether or not you should be invited to their in-person audition. Think of it as the audition before the audition as prescreens play a crucial role in showcasing your talent. It’s the prelude to your dance college admissions journey, a crucial step that can make or break your chances of landing a spot in the program of your choice.

Just like styles and college programs vary, prescreens come in different shapes and sizes. Paying attention to how you feel while completing the prescreen can give you an idea of how you will like training at that specific institution.

Prescreens take time and they should be done with an attention to detail! Seek guidance from mentors, teachers, or professionals to ensure that you use the prescreen process to reflect your best self. Every year we do dozens of prescreens for almost every school that requires them and the biggest thing we've learned is that investing time and doing it at the highest possible level can make the difference in determining where you’ll spend the next three or four years honing your craft.

Good luck on your college admissions journey!

May the odds be ever in your favor 🙌🏽
