Our History
The Dance Artist Prep (TDA Prep) was founded in 2020 with a clear mission: to equip young dancers with the training, mentorship, and career guidance needed to thrive in the professional dance world. What began as a virtual training platform and weekend workshop series has since evolved into a nationally recognized institution—one that helps dancers refine their artistry, navigate college auditions, and transition into professional careers with confidence.
TDA Prep’s College Candidate Program has been a game-changer for students pursuing higher education in dance, guiding them through every step of the college audition process and generating over $1.5 million in scholarship offers in just three years. Graduates have trained at world-class institutions like Juilliard, USC, The Royal Ballet School, Ailey/Fordham, SUNY Purchase, NYU, The Hartt School, Boston Conservatory, and the University of Arizona. Many have gone on to perform with renowned companies such as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, National Ballet of Canada, Hubbard Street, Ailey 2, and Complexions Contemporary Ballet.
In 2025, TDA Prep took its impact even further with the launch of its Full-Time Training Program—the first of its kind in the Chicago area. Housed at our training facility, The Shed, this in-person program offers elite training and mentorship at the highest level. Under the leadership of Founder and Artistic Director Preston Miller, Director Jacqueline Green Miller, and School Administrator Heath Gustafson, TDA Prep continues to set a new standard for pre-professional dance education, ensuring dancers have the tools, confidence, and connections to succeed in the industry.
